Song of India
Dracaena reflexa

The Song of India is a yellow and green variegated plant that is perfect to add texture and a bit of color to your landscape. These plants can get a decent size, 20ft, but are maintained to be much lower by cutting back. Pruning the plant is a great way to promote new growth and keep them nice and full. They are relatively slow growing plants, so this is something you only need to do a few times a year. Being slower growers, they’re a great option for a large pot on the lanai. The particular plants we have for sale are sun grown, so they are used to getting lots of direct sunlight. However, by putting them in partial shade for a some time, the plant will acclimate to the shade, and can take a full shade area after that transition. Dracaenas will grow a bit slower in a shade area. As far as feeding your new plant we recommend using the Sure-Gro 8-2-12 fertilizer, especially if your plant is in the ground, this will help keep your landscape foliage that dark green and vibrant yellow color.
Fun Fact!
Despite their name being "song of India" these Dracaenas are not native to India. They come from surrounding islands including Madagascar and the Southeast coast of Africa. Another cool thing about these plants is how easy they are to propagate. By keeping up with your pruning schedule, you will have some extra pieces left, which you can soil propagate. Simply take the end of the plant, remove the bottom most leaves, and place the bottom few inches into the soil. Over time, the cutting will grow its own roots and create an entire new plant! For an extra boost, we have a rooting hormone power that you can put on your cutting to promote even faster root growth. This is the prefect plant for cutting and sharing with your friends and neighbors!
