Crossandras are sun to part-sun lovers with beautiful orange flowers. They can get up to 3 feet tall and will last multiple years with the proper care. Deadheading is a great way to promote new growth and blooms, in addition to regualarly fertilizing your plant with an organic option like the Espoma Flower-Tone granular. Crossandras beautiful orange blooms will appear on and off throughout the year, keeping a pretty constant and vibrant color in your landscape. They also have dark green foliage with a waxy-looking finish that adds to the landscape. Their flowers will also attract pollinators, like bees and butterflies. Being native to Sri Lanka and Southern India, they’re a great option for our SWFL heat and can last throughout multiple summers. This also means that in the heat of our summer, you should be checking on your bedding plants daily for water, missing a water can wilt your plants, so make sure to stay on top of it, even when it rains!

Fun Fact!

Crossandras nickname is "firecracker flower." This is because of its seed pods. Once the seeds pods are dried- they explode- like a firecracker! The seeds spread in the area and create new, baby plants. Seed pods are produced in high humidity and rainy environments, like our typical summers in SWFL. Keep your eyes peeled for some seed pods and you can have these tropical orange flowers all over your yard!
