Shooting Star
Pseuderanthemum laxiflorum
not valid on prior purchases • cash & carry
Shooting star plants go by many names like Star Flower, False Erantheum and Dazzler. This tropical plant produces vibrant purple, star shaped flowers that attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. The attractive blooms will last from spring to fall with only a short few months in the winter of their dark green foliage. Although they prefer the sun, they can take some partial shade, they may just have a few less blooms with less sun. Being tropical plants, our rare cold temperatures could affect this plant, covering them up or bringing them inside when temperatures reach the 30s would ensure your shooting star will be healthy and happy. The typical height will be 4-5ft, but they can be easily pruned to keep a tight ball shape. Regularly fertilizing with the Sure-Gro 6-8-10 will keep the flowers coming and the leaves nice and dark green.
Fun Fact!
The shooting star is native to the Fiji Islands and New Hebrides, so they do well in our climate. This also means they are surrounded by salty water, so they are salt-tolerant, making them a perfect choice for a landscape on the coast. They can also handle our low altitude since there are similar low to medium altitudes in Fiji.
