Tulip Ginger
Curcuma zedoaria
not valid on prior purchases • cash & carry
Curcuma ginger is a flowering perennial that thrives during summer. Their purple flowers resemble a tropical tulip, giving them the common name of the tulip ginger. They prefer a partial sun area where they can receive bright light. Curcumas have dark green leaves that usually have a dark purple stripe through the center. Being that they are perennial, Curcuma will pop up from dormancy in late Spring. Gingers have rhizomes and will spread in the ground. They like to be watered when soil is dry to the touch & requires less water during the dormancy period. We recommend fertilizing with Sure- Gro 6-8-10 to keep the blooms coming all summer!
Fun Fact!
The cone flower spike on Curcuma ginger is actually a brightly colored bract! The bract encloses the smaller flowers, similar to bougainvillea’s or poinsettias!
