New Guinea Impatiens
Impatiens Hawkeri
not valid on prior purchases • cash & carry
New Guinea Impatiens are part of the balsam family and are known for their showy flowers. These plants thrive in the partial sun and like having acidic soil, so be sure to regularly fertilize. New Guineas can reach about 18 inches in height and about 10 in wide. If you want to maintain your plant at a shorter level, you can cut them back and keep the at the height you like. To cut back, just cut between the nodes of the plant, and they will push out new growth from wherever you cut it. These flowers come in numerous colors including white, red, different shades or pink, and even purple. Impatiens are some of the most popular annuals in the US, and do great in our SWFL area from fall to spring.
Whats the difference between types of Impatiens in SWFL?
Impatiens Walleriana, or Imara Impatiens, are able to take full shade and still bloom. However, they do have smaller leaves and flowers and don't get as tall as the New Guinea. Sunpatiens are an impatiens hybrid and love full, all day sun. They look extremely similar to the New Guinea impatiens, but they do have some important differences. Sunpatiens will get taller, up to 30 in and they also need the full sun to produce those blooms.
