Aloysia virgata is native to Argentina and is an important plant that supports many pollinators like honeybees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. They prefer full sun but will tolerate a bit of part shade and will produce fragrant white flower spikes throughout the year. The scent resembles a sweet, almost vanilla smell. Sweet Almond can grow from 8’ to 10’ tall and is best kept trimmed as they bloom on new growth and this will also maintain a tidier appearance. Water your plant frequently when young to get established and once mature, they will be somewhat drought tolerant. You can fertilize with the Nursureyman’s Sure-Gro 6-8-10 fertilizer to promote blooms on your plant.

Fun Fact!

Sweet Almond plays an important role in supporting local ecosystems with its abundance of nectar producing white flowers and their intoxicating fragrance that is a magnet for many pollinators by day and night. Pollinators include hummingbirds, bees, Sphinx Moths, Hummingbird Clear Wing Moths, and numerous species of Tropical Hairstreak Butterflies.
