Ponytail Palm
Beaucarnea recurvata
not valid on prior purchases • cash & carry
Website: Ponytail palm, Beaucarnea recurvata, is a showstopper that’s equally as stunning as a houseplant or as a specimen in the landscape. Their delicate, long leaves drape over the thick caudex and branches giving it a “ponytail” appearance. Ponytail palms can slowly reach up to 20ft tall with a caudex spanning 7ft wide, only reaching around 2ft indoors. They and are native to the dry regions of Mexico and in the agave family. These “palms” are drought tolerant and will do best in a well-draining soil mix going dry between waterings. Ponytail palms are versatile and can take full shade to full sun. We recommend fertilizing yours with We the Wild Liquid fertilizer in containers, or Sure Gro 8-2-12 if planted in the ground.
Fun Fact!
Fun Fact: Ponytail palms are not actually true palm trees! They are closely related to agaves and yuccas. Their caudex stores water, making them perfect for forgetful plant parents. They produce a flower during Spring that resembles a yucca spike.
